Genetics is one of my top subjects! I have been a genetics counselor for 13 years. Masters degree in genetic counseling from Arcadia University. I am also certified as a genetic counselor. Worked as a genetic counselor in a prenatal setting, metabolics, newborn screening, and molecular genetics. My expertise is in metabolic genetics but all human genetics is in my range of experience. I can also assist with the certification exam for genetic counseling.

I have been a genetic counselor for 13 years from an accredited college in Pennsylvania. First, I worked as a prenatal counselor but switched to newborn screening and metabolic genetics for the majority of my career. I earned certification as a genetic counselor in 2009. I have taught high school students the basics of genetics in a classroom as well as taught masters degree students.
I believe students learn in different ways so I will make sure to provide different formats to allow the student to achieve learning success. I enjoy teaching children at all levels. I find that children learn at different speeds and by different means. So, to be truly effective you have to present the information to the broadest base of students and hope you address all their needs. Over the past year, I served as an Americorps volunteer in an inner city charter school with an emphasis on character education. The purpose of my teaching is to allow every student to succeed. I will try any way possible to reach this goal for every child. Working in the sciences, I feel that inquiry learning is important and hands-on experience is essential. Each student has their own way of learning best and I try to find that learning style and use it whenever possible.
I graduated from IUP with a degree in Biology Education. I am certified in Biology and Middle School Science. I taught for one semester at Central Bucks School District where I taught Academic Biology, Astronomy and Oceanography. I then taught two years at Gateway School District where I taught 8th grade physical science. I now have a permanent position at Yough School District where I teach 7th grade Life Science. I have a B.S. in biology from West Virginia Wesleyan College. The college is a liberal arts school and I had to take a variety of course work aside from science classes. While I was in school I spent a summer in Australia with the School for Field Studies studying Tropical Ecology and Tropical Reforestation. I also spent a semester in Brazil with Antioch College traveling and learning with different ecosystems. I have experience writing preparing/carrying out experiments and writing reports. Since College I worked two years for a smelting plant in their lab. I currently work now as a medical lab tech for UPMC. I am pursuing my education by taking prereqs to get my masters in teaching.
