My comments on tutoring Testing Skills : I have a doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology. There is a skill and a strategy to taking tests and exams. I can help build those skills and also instill the mindset and strategy necessary to be successful.

I am very aware of the necessity of adapting my teaching style to the learning modality of those I am working with. As an educator I evaluated students to define how they best process information. They may be auditory learners, visual learners or they may use a combination approaches. I am very patient and understand that everyone can learn. I believe in setting goals and evaluating progress to establish new goals when necessary.

When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor lessons according to an individual student's needs and involve students in a dialogue by asking questions that provoke thought, conversation, and perhaps humor. I can read about it, or hear a lecture about it, but seeing it helps me understand the subject. This type of teaching would be done with movies, drawing or acting out the situation. In my teaching, I try to use all methods available to me to help the students learn and to use their creativity. I especially try to get students to work in groups and to share their work with each other. I find that pier groups provide the best help in understanding the subject matter. A Little Bit About Me...

Over the past 15 years I have had variety of different teaching experiences. I taught literature as a TA at UC Santa Barbara while studying for my Masters. I have tutored K-12 students in both Math and English. While studying for my undergraduate I assited in running a homeless shelter where I taught many of the children reading, writing, and math.
