In high school, I was frequently the one that people came to for help. It was then that I realized I was extremely good at teaching. My senior year, I spent all day helping four different math teachers, one of which was frequently absent. In order to keep her class from falling behind, she had me make notes and go over practice problems with her classes. I spent quite a bit of my free time working on notes and worksheets, and giving step by step instructions to other children. After I graduated high school I went to a community college just to get the feel of college. I decided to major in speech because I was interested in correct speech. Not only how words were pronounced but also what mechanisms that are used to produce correct speech. I went on to Delta State University to pursue my Bachelor's in Speech and Hearing, and might I add they had a spectacular program. I learned a lot more than what makes a person have a speech disorder.
I tutored at the local elementary school for two summers straigth and absolutely loved it. Children are a joy to work with becuase they are eager to learn. I feel that if you make it interesting for a child then their learning experience becomes something that they won't forget.
