Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I have over 40 years experience working with children and adolescents with dyslexia. I have a thriving private practice in Asheville and work closely with children and families as well as teaching through the Orton-Gillingham Approach. As a professional educator, parent, speaker, published author, adjunct professor, and a parent, I am passionate about helping the dyslexic learning reach their potential!

I've earned several awards for my work with dyslexic children including an award from the past governor of Michigan. I've also been honored by parent groups in the Dearborn Public Schools in Michigan. I've had several articles published on the topics of juvenile delinquency, learning differences, early recognition of learning differences and many others. I've been an adjunct professor at The University of Michigan, guest speaker at local and national conferences, and a teacher consultant for many years. Retired teacher with 27 years of experience!

I have 27 years of experience teaching and case managing public school special education students in grades 9-12. I do not have a particular style of teaching. I prefer to talk to the individual I am tutoring and together discover the best way to teach them the subject material. I believe that everyone learns information at a different pace and that some information is easier to process than other information. I believe that individuals should be comfortable while learning in order for them to actually learn. I would never force someone to learn "my way" and would work with them on developing a way that works for both of us. I would also focus on teaching proper study habits so the individuals can apply them and possibly not need a tutor in the future.

I obtained my licensure through NCTEACH in Specific Learning Disabilities. I am Highly Qualified by way of Praxis exam. I have taught grades 6-12 in almost all disability identifications primarily math and language arts; however, have supported various other subject areas.
I believe that all students, regardless of gender, socioeconomic environment or ability, can learn and should be challenged with creative and applicable opportunities to achieve their best.
