My approach for each class is to focus on the text and do exercises that give students the opportunity to work with the text first-hand. I focus on troublesome areas and I spend many hours planning each class. I prefer to let students come up with their own decisions, and craft their responses into the key ideas of the lesson. I believe that flexibility is key, and this strategy makes the students feel comfortable with discussing and thinking on their own terms.
I am currently a teaching assistant for the Simpson College English Department. I selected the books for the semester, drafted the curriculum, and I instruct classes. I also hold advisory office hours. I teach poetry, fiction and nonfiction. In addition to these things, I am a poet and fiction writer with a high level of experience and craft, and can assist students in expressing themselves creatively.

A Little Bit About Me...

I've always loved interacting and working with children (through nannying, volunteering, and tutoring) but after finishing my master's degree I believe it is even more important to give children the right tools for learning early on so that they have a real chance for success in life. I believe each child has strengths and weaknesses and that both positive reinforcement and constructive feedback are necessary for success.
