I like to have organization and structure while tutoring but I also am flexible and can change my approach on how I am helping the student based on his/her body language. If a student is bored and loves sports, after reading I love to go outside and play basketball with them while asking them questions about what we've just learned. Incorporating their interests in learning the subjects is important to me.
I have experience tutoring students at an elementary and middle school level in reading, Spanish and science and math. I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Nutrition and Spanish. I am currently in graduate school studying integrative medicine. I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits). I really enjoy the company and conversation of young adults and find I often learn from them as they are learning from me. A Little Bit About Me...

I approach teaching as something that takes very much patience and willingness to listen to the students problems. I believe in letting the student self discover his or her ablitiies by steering them in the right direction. I act as a guide and help further explain the ideas that are trying to be learned. I believe in a combination of teaching methods including but not limted to books, the web, models, videos, an flash cards. By practicing a little every day the skills can become second nature.
