A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored several people in the past in basic algebra for various things such as the GED or a college class. I worked for two years as a tutor at the Augusta State University Writing Center, tutoring all manner of students, from ESL to graduate students. I also tutored a student with aspergers; thus, I have experience working with special needs clients. I also do freelance editing. I am primarily versed in English, but if math (anything below pre-calculus) help is needed, I will gladly assist.
I change my teaching style depending on the client. With ESL students, I will often point out every mistake to them so that they can get used to seeing what the correct way looks like. With other students, I point out a few mistakes, and then expect them to find the others on their own. With math, I will give out a sample problem, work out how it is done, then expect the student to do a ... read more

I recently completed a Youth Staff contract aboard Royal Caribbean. Along with entertainment, we promoted learning and creativity, offering educational activities through science experiments, and expression through art projects, theme nights, and parades. I've taught English classes for kids/teens in Brazil, and led equestrian programs in Greece for troubled and disabled local children. Prior to leaving the US, I filled my passion tutoring “at risk” children after school in Buffalo, and working to develop language skills through cultural activities for families in Boston. I have a special talent for literature, writing, and art, but also love math and science.
I love working with children of all ages, and like combining education with fun. I am a thoughtful, creative, and patient teacher, and like to encourage children to approach problems and questions in their own way, frequently ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I use a constructivist approach to teaching with engaging lessons using real-world situations as a foundation. Learning can be applied to the interest of the individual student to exhibit mastery of the standards required at each level. All students learn differently, so my first goal as an educator is to identify a student’s learning style(s) then plan lessons accordingly. I set high, yet reasonable, expectations for my students and they seldom fail to accomplish any task required of them.
As a professional educator, I have five years experience in working with both adolescents and adults in the public high school environment. I am currently an adjunct English instructor at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, South Carolina. In both my undergraduate and graduate studies, the emphasis has always been on professional writing skills. In addition, I have extensive training ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I love teaching children. For the younger children, I tend to be more hands on with projects and objects to help them learn. I also believe visual aids are very good. For middle school children learning math and English, I feel like giving them lots of practice problems and going over it together really seems to help. For students in high school it usually depends on the kid. By this age most of them have discovered if they are visual, kinetic, or auditory learners. Based on the type of learner they are , I like to adjust my teaching style.
I tutored for Mission: Mentor while I attended Georgia State Universtity for 3 years. I was awarded Mentor of the Year in 2006 at Georgia State University. When I continued my education at Augusta State University, I volunteered as a mentor at the ASU Literacy Center helping children of all ages.
