I change my teaching style depending on the client. With ESL students, I will often point out every mistake to them so that they can get used to seeing what the correct way looks like. With other students, I point out a few mistakes, and then expect them to find the others on their own. With math, I will give out a sample problem, work out how it is done, then expect the student to do a new math problem on his or her own. All in all, I will adjust my teaching style depending on the needs of the client.
I have tutored several people in the past in basic algebra for various things such as the GED or a college class. I worked for two years as a tutor at the Augusta State University Writing Center, tutoring all manner of students, from ESL to graduate students. Along with entertainment, we promoted learning and creativity, offering educational activities through science experiments, and expression through art projects, theme nights, and parades. I've taught English classes for kids/teens in Brazil, and led equestrian programs in Greece for troubled and disabled local children. Prior to leaving the US, I filled my passion tutoring “at risk” children after school in Buffalo, and working to develop language skills through cultural activities for families in Boston.
