I majored in Biochemistry and Pharmacology at the UNAM in Mexico City. Of the essence in tutoring is to make the subject pertinent and fun, as well as applicable to everyday life. For small children, we have phonetics to help the child master sounds and words. My teaching style definitely has a tiered structure. Because children are naturally curious and always ready to play, the first thing I do is try to break the topic down into an everyday application. I use manipulatives whenever possible to introduce the topic and allow students to draw conclusions from these activities. Once we have created a solid base to build upon, we then move to more abstract applications. Building students' confidence in their own thinking is a key to further growth.
