A Little Bit About Me...

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in political science in 2009. I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I am now working on my Master's in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I worked as an English tutor for international students at the University of Findlay from 2007-2009. I also tutored college students in Spanish in the fall of 2009. I have also tutored elementary school students in English. I studied Spanish in Mexico and Arabic in Jordan. My strongest subjects are Spanish, English (writing, reading, grammar), and social studies (geography and government). I received a 28 on the ACT and I can help those who are preparing to take it except for the math and science portion of the exam.

I grew up in Texas and attended Abilene Christian University for four years. This also included two summers in Mexico. I lack only one semester completing my BA in Spanish. However, I chose to marry a Canadian and instead of finishing my degree, I moved to Canada. Over the years, I have periodically used my Spanish while travelling to places such as Honduras and Panama. Last year, I was offered a position as an in-class tutor/translator in our local school system for three Spanish-speaking children. Recently, I was asked to translate a business meeting for a well-known insurance company.
I enjoy working with children of all ages. I have a son with a learning disability whom I am now home-schooling. I realize that patience is key when teaching. I believe that no two students learn alike and the most important thing is to make sure students are having fun with learning. If learning is looked at as boring or hard students will try to avoid it, when learning is fun students learn without realising the work involved. I am willing to try a new tactic with every new task and am always learning myself. As someone new to the education field I am always researching new ideas in the education field.
