I really enjoy, generally speaking, helping people, but mainly help them pursue a future degree for themselves and a better life. My teaching style is customized to each student's needs. Because all students have different learning styles my instructions are patterned to maximize that student's particular style. After evaluating each student with a baseline test, goals and objectives based on the state's/district's curriculum are determined. My style is setting high but realistic expectations with rigorous assignments. I also try to have an overdose of encouragement and make the learning session fun time for students. While at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh I worked as a tutor in Mathematics and Shop. Much of the time the students did not have an adequate education in high school, so it was necessary to start from scratch. My other duties were to fabricate office equipment and search out tutorials to better explain concepts to struggling students. Depending on the student I often start from scratch with analogies, diagrams, online tutorials, and simple practice on scratch paper. Usually students will get it after a few sessions, but there are many students that have to be tutored on a constant basis. I teach that effort is necessary for success. A positive attitude is good, but only if it is an afterthought of repetitive practice and focus. I would not tell a student "you can do it" if I knew they could not. Instead we would work together until they could do it.

As a parent of middle school students, I understand the importance of motivating students by using real world examples and providing hands-on experiences.
