Experience Summary
I earned my mechanical engineering degree from The Ohio State University and worked as an engineer and a manager in a scientific field for over 20 years before starting my own business in information research. Throughout my life, I have naturally gravitated to a teacher/mentor role because of my ability to help children and adults learn new concepts. I have experience assisting children in math and science and in giving music lessons.
Teaching Style
As a parent of middle school students, I understand the importance of motivating students by using real world examples and providing hands-on experiences. I enjoy working one-one-one with students, learning their strengths, and using those to have fun and make meaningful progress on the curriculum. Because of my professional background, I believe in basing study on solid principles such as methodology, repetition, and use of the scientific method to help the student retain the concepts in the long term. I especially hope to be a role model to students and share the joy of working in a technical field.
