A Little Bit About Me...

I have over 20 years experience in training individuals in materials related to their employment & career preparation. I've also worked as a CASA worker in Idaho and had to prepare reports for the courts/judges review to determine placement of at risk cildren. I was a career information counselor for Marsing High School, Idaho, for grades 7th through 12th. I've also spent many years writing research papers, business correspondence, business plans, articles for newspapers as a writer, editor and publisher, both as an employee, owner and contract writer and the mother of an autistic child.
I would say that my style is one of direction. I like to use visual learning methods as well as memorization and recognition methods. Seeing a diagram is sometimes not enough. Actually trying to simulate a diagram/problem on your own after seeing it once promotes better understanding. As pertaining to math, depending on the level of the learner, I would do some problems together first and then let them work through it and find out where they run into problems. I always write out the problems along with the learner. I believe that everyone has the potential to learn all subjects as long as they have the motivation and determination to learn. Sometimes a positive and fun mentor is a great way to learn a difficult subject.

I am most familiar with conversation, as a means of relating information and testing understanding. I think that a through understanding in any subject comes about when a student can recognize the important concepts, and how they relate to each other, and speak those concepts in words which they understand--while gaining the vocabulary and proficiency as each subject demands. Most of all, I am an interested learner, in a variety of subjects, and I am excited to share my interest with others. I have a good sense of when I am being understood, and when I am not.
