A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all students can achieve in an academically and behaviorally rigorous environment. With the help of parental involvement and tutoring, and without watering down curriculum, any child can be successful if the effort is made. Most of my experience is in teaching classes that are textbook-focused and teacher-driven, although I am open to other styles as well.
During and after my college years, I have always had an interest in helping others become better writers. For three years I worked as a tutor at Alfred University's writing center. I also have eight years of experience teaching junior high English at a rigorous school. The school I teach in has a back-to-basics curriculum with a focus on the rules of grammar and writing. I not only taught in the classroom, but also dedicated my time after school to tutoring individual students.

My teaching style is to listen to what the person needs help with, and then to ask them what they already know about the subject. Next, I will show him or her to solve the problem, then ask him or her to try it himself or herself. If he or she has any questions, I will answer them. However, I think that it is best for the person to learn how to solve the problems with assistance from myself, but not to do all the work myself.
