I have taught Italian for many years now, having studied in Italy,lived and visited there many times during the last 30 years. I am at the level of a native speaker regarding proficiency. I use a modern teaching method based on scientific evidence that children learn 60% of their native language by listening, 30% by speaking, and only 5% each by reading and writing. Learning should be fun, so although grammar is important, the ability to understand and be understood should remain in the forefront.
