Experience Summary
In the past 30 years, languages have been my passion. I have worked as a teacher, proofreader/editor, and also as a translator. I have taught everything from classes to private lessons, children to senior citizens with success and enthusiasm. I always try to find out what my students love, and start working from this to help them achieve their goals.
Teaching Style
Although grammar is important, languages are acquired overwhelmingly by listening (60%) and speaking (30%), whereas only 5% each by reading and writing. I view myself more as a coach than a "teacher", using a modern didactic method also known as accelerated learning. Learning should be fun, otherwise, something is not right, and I always try to find out what that "something" is.

I am competent at teaching at beginner to intermediate levels. Of course grammar is important, but the main goal can be to help students understand and be understood. I have taught German for many years now, having studied in Munich and lived there for almost 15 years. I am at the level of a native speaker regarding proficiency. I use a modern teaching method based on scientific evidence that children learn 60% of their native language by listening, 30% by speaking, and only 5% each by reading and writing. Learning should be fun, so although grammar is important, the ability to understand and be understood should remain in the forefront. |
