Theatre Is Fun, So Let's Have Fun

I love to make it fun. Theatre (as well as History) should be fun. Learning should be fun. When someone enjoys learning, they want to learn more! So while bringing semi-strict curriculum of topics that must be covered over a course of time, I approach it with the idea that it must be fun, enjoyable, and free-willing. Theatre is a profession, not just a hobby, so I'll help the students understand the importance of theatre, the expectations of directors and designers and actors, as well as how to work as a team player. With history, I'll approach theatre in a matter that will help the student excel in the key facts, and understand the essential ideas and subcategories that follow.
I have experience in theatrical design (costume and set painting), and performance (drama, musicals, comedies). I also have worked with children as a mentor in KidStage (an after school theatre program) in ... read more

Private & Group Art Lessons in the Madison Area THIS Summer!

I am a recent grad from Stevens Point, starting my own private art teaching business. I have 7 years of professional experience, which includes gallery exhibits, juried shows and the sale of numerous works. I am most adept in oil painting, however I am also skilled in drawing (graphite, ink, charcoal, pastels) and 3 dimensional work (ceramic, metal, wood). I have been an aid for several workshops here in the Stevens Point Area.
I believe that homeschooling and private lessons allow kids and adults to learn and understand their subject matter quicker, more efficiently, and with close guidance. I aim to teach any student like an adult, allowing my classroom/studio to operate like a college level course. I will host critiques, ask in depth questions and have each student develop their own digital portfolio by the end of the course/instruction.

Just recently, I worked with students in New Berlin, WI as part of the Junior Achivement program. While in High School and College, I worked with students in Madison at Whitehorse Middle School on Video Editing, PC Repair, Postmodernism, and Music. I have extensive skills in writing, grammar, spelling, public speaking, and knowledge in and of government--state and national/federal, specifically the Presidency.
I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the stude ... read more

I believe that all children can learn, and when a child has difficulty grasping a concept, the teacher must change their technique. I have used a variety of methods when working with children. Manipulatives, flash cards ,games and stimulus equivalence training are just a few. I also believe that a child that needs extra help with a subject should not feel like they are being punished. A teaching session should not just help a person learn a concept, but help develop a passing for knowledge and learning.
In 2005 I obtained a degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish and in 2009 obtained a masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. I have worked with children of normal intelligence and what cognitive disabilities. Although my degrees are not directly related to math, I use mathmatical concepts daily. I love watching and learning from children. I believe that learning is closely related to confidence. I like to take the time to get to know children and understand what they like so that I can better understand how their brain works and how they process information. In understanding what they like, this gives me the ability to let them show me something new. The best way that I retained information in college was to teach someone else what I was studying. As the children learn the new information, I like to have them show me the new information the same way they did their hobby or interest.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that children want to learn and discover things about the world, and my goal as an educator is to foster that curiosity and channel it towards classroom subjects by a more holistic style of teaching that incorporates personal interests with the standard educational canon. I believe fostering this love of learning and feeling of relevance towards themselves is something that not only helps young students, but, helps them years to come. Our job as teachers is not only to prepare our students for today, but, make sure they come equipped for their challenges in the future as well.

I graduated summa cum laude with my BA and MA in Italian linguistics and while that seems to be a degree that is not very marketable in the field of general tutoring, I have studied other subjects at the graduate level which I believe qualify me to tutor younger students. Beside my experience teaching Italian, I also taught Spanish level 1 and 2 at the high school level, studied French for 5 years and am currently studying Arabic at UW Madison. Included in those studies was an in depth study of world history, especially European history. I also completed a Doctor of Natural Health degree and most of my interest fell in the area of psychology and pathology. I am also an award winning artist.

Growing up knowing that knowledge is power, it seemed as though anything was achievable. But as I began learning, I wondered why some things came easier to others and why some kids needed more type, and with this I began to investigate, I have learned different ways of conveying the same information in different styles. Everyone has the potential to learn information, it just depeneds on how they learn, and if everyone could be educated the difference in education with dramatically increase the world and peoples lifestyle would improve. A Little Bit About Me...

I understand every person learns in different manners. Therefor, I have learned how to teach some students by use of examples and others by basic understanding and concepts of the idea. I encourage the thought process of the individual student so that they can learn their own ideas and therefor learn how to use these ideas on exams and future applications.
As a SPS member while attending UW-Whitewater I gave tutoring lessons to physics students who needed help i not only physics but also mathematics. I am able to communicate ideas well to others and help the understanding through an easy process.
