Math is important to everyone...so is music.

I find that mathematics instruction is greatly improved by visual aid. I found that my most effective teaching tools were the white board and marker rather than the computer or calculator (although those are useful as well). I have also been able to adapt my teaching style to the learning styles of my students, whether they enjoy learning math or not. As for the saxophone, I believe that throughout a musicians instruction, a good balance between fundamentals such as scales and technical exercises, and repertoire such as solos and duets, is very important.
During my sophomore year I started tutoring for the mathematics department, educating my peers in a wide variety of mathematical topics. A Little Bit About Me...

My early teaching and learning style was to do as many problems that were thrown at me in class or the text. I learned quickly that you need to understand the problem in order to solve problems that aren't set up for you. I am a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in Nutritional Sciences. This degree required excellent science and math skills to complete. A Little Bit About Me...

I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. I have a BS in Mathematics and doing math at all levels is fun for me.
I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge.
