Math is important to everyone...so is music.

During my sophomore year I started tutoring for the mathematics department, educating my peers in a wide variety of mathematical topics. This was a very enjoyable experience in which I took pride in my ability to instruct in mathematics such as calculus and statistics. During my junior year I started tutoring computer science on the side, which my students told me I was more proficient at than the college hired tutors. My senior year I was appointed a fellowship in the mathematics department during which I was in charge of the tutoring program. I also have a lot of experience playing the saxophone, mainly classical, but also in jazz. I have multiple degrees in computer and electrical engineering from Purdue University. I also have a partial degree in Accelerated Associates in Culinary Arts from Kendall College and a few classes in Computer Science in the Masters program in Computer Science and the University of Illinois Chicago. I have experience in manufacturing engineering, Research and Development, Sales, Management in Computers and several years as a Chef.
My early teaching and learning style was to do as many problems that were thrown at me in class or the text. I learned quickly that you need to understand the problem in order to solve problems that aren't set up for you. I have earned a BS and an MS in Aerospace Engineering. My most recent coursework was focused on Aerospace Propulsion systems- work which relies heavily on my background in Math, Physics, and Chemistry. I have always been a teacher at heart. It was often to the detriment of my own homework completion rate, as I would be much more interested in both solving the problems and helping my classmates understand how it worked that I was concerned with getting the solution written down for myself.

I understand every person learns in different manners. Therefor, I have learned how to teach some students by use of examples and others by basic understanding and concepts of the idea. I encourage the thought process of the individual student so that they can learn their own ideas and therefor learn how to use these ideas on exams and future applications.
As a SPS member while attending UW-Whitewater I gave tutoring lessons to physics students who needed help i not only physics but also mathematics. I am able to communicate ideas well to others and help the understanding through an easy process.
