I am a retired college English professor who taught several college transfer courses at the community college level. I also worked as a tutor for several years at the college. I am very open and ask for a lot of participation on behalf of the student. I feel that if they get involved and ask lots of questions that they will learn better. I love helping children and try and find creative ways to help them learn and remember their work at hand.
I have completed both an MBA and bachelors degree in business and during that education I studied a wide array subjects. Marketing, Finance, accounting, HR, and economics. Being a mother of teenagers gives me an edge as a teacher. I have tremendous patience and understanding of the daily lives of young people. I try to make my students feel comfortable and safe in my classroom, if a student does not feel comfortable, they will find it hard to open up to a learning environment. My philosophy is learning does not have to be painful.
As a mother of three teenagers, i decided to go back to school and fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a high school English teacher. I could not imagine myself doing anything but helping young minds grow to their fullest potential. I am highly qualified in the area of writing. My 10th grade students have an 85% proficiency rating for the NC writing assessment. I also teach Graduation Project that requires an 8-10 page documented research paper. My skills in these areas will prove highly useful in a tutoring capacity.
