I work as a math teacher at Tupelo Christian Preparatory School. While in college I tutored some of my peers. During my student teaching I was able to work one-on-one with many students in the classroom and I understand the different types of learning styles of students. Also during my student teaching I tutored high school students in math in the after school program and tutored privately for some other students whose parents wanted me to help their child. I have helped students in General Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, College Algebra, and Statistics.

I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible. I graduated from one of the top teaching schools in the nation (according to NCATE), and have a degree in elementary and special education. I specialized in math education, but am also qualified to teach English, science, and social studies. I have worked with children as young as 2 years old and as old as 15 in a formal setting. I have helped children go from hating a subject to being successful and loving it.

I have an associates degree in Computer Science/Engineering and a bachelor's in Mathematics Education with a minor in Psychology. I have over 25 years teaching/tutoring/test prep experience. I have also authored ACT test items and units for various textbook companies. I design, and deliver workshops for teachers across the state of Mississippi as a teacher/consultant for the National Writing Project. Since the state of Mississippi implemented exit exams for various subjects in 1999, I have been conducting Subject Area Test Preparation for my Algebra I students and have a 100% pass rate among regular education students. I have been out of college, working in the IT industry for about 8 years now. While in college, I tutored fellow students in the school's lab in the subjects of English and Mathematics. Since undergraduate work, I have worked in the business world, primarily in the manufacturing arena. My academic experiences have continued on some level. In times past I tutored high school math students in North Carolina. I am proficient is equations, inequalities, Cartesian Coordinate System, polynomials, factoring and functions. My style focuses on the processes in arriving at a solution. The learning goal in mathematics is to impart understanding of the process of working toward a solution, not attaining the solution. In mathematics as many other endeavors, it is how we proceed to a goal that is important, not the goal itself.
