SAT - Math is one of my top subjects!

My teaching style varies for each student, I try to tailor the work to how the student learns.
I have been tutoring students of all ages since I was in high school. I began by tutoring my own peers in math and social studies. I would also tutor children from 1st grade on up in all subjects. Once in college, I tutored college students and younger in many fields, primarily mathematics courses. My specialty quickly became preparation for standardized tests as well as calculus because I have a unique ability to discover how each student learns and tailor the lessons to their needs. I can quickly find where the knowledge gaps exist for each student and fill in those gaps, in order to create a complete understanding of the topic, not just get them to memorize answers.

I believe the best way to learn is by working one on one and then taking the lessons learned and working out problems with out a tutor present and then bringing back the problems that caused a struggle. Even better is working in a group of peers and then checking in with a tutor weekly so that the student and tutor can zero in on what the sticking points were that week.
I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics since the age of 15. I started working at a tutoring center where the student's ages ranged from 4-15. I graduated from Ohio State with a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. During my High School career, I tutored many of my friends in Trignometry, Physics and Calculus. During my college years, I had a broad exposure to Math and Science. I volunteered at the Chemistry and Math lab few hours a week to help students with basic college level chemistry and math courses.

I worked primarily in the oil industry with major geological responsibilities on the Alaska North Slope and the North Sea. I have published over 50 technical articles and papers in my field. After my oil industry work I taught high school physical science in Kentucky for 10 years, including earth and space science, physics, and chemistry. A Little Bit About Me...

I started my college career pursuing architecture because I enjoy drawing and design. Realizing buildings weren't my passion and agriculture was where I wanted to go, I changed to a triple major in ag systems technology, ag business, and economics. Realizing I have always been good in math and enjoyed being challenged, I changed my major again to agricultural engineering where I acquired a degree in December of 2008. I have tutored an individual in physics and algebra and feel math and science would be the best fit for myself.
