"Why" do we describe imagery in poetry instead of just saying how we feel? "Why" do we enter compound keys in some SQL tables but not others? "Why" do we need a conclusion on our essay? If we understand why we do something, we are far more likely to remember how to do it. I also strive to keep the homework the work of the student. I enjoy getting to know my students' strengths and areas in need of support, so that I may better facilitate learning in those areas. I believe students are more motivated as learners if information is presented to them in interesting forms. As an ESL, grades 9-12 teacher, I am very familiar with identifying students' individual strengths and areas in need of support. Every one of my students learns differently.
