I graduated with honors from Eastern Washington University and began teaching in the public school in Newport. During the three years with that school district, I tutored during the summers, usually in reading and writing, though I have tutored math, history, and science as well. While teaching my children at home for the next 18 years, I have tutored many ages in writing, and currently teach and tutor at the Deer Park Homelink program, where I have been for the past eight years. I enjoy teaching kids of all ages and get along well with them while maintaining a degree of respect from them. I am capable at keeping them on task, even with challenging personalities. I enjoy doing hands-on work as well as print focused work. I have developed patience working with my own six kids in our home. I believe strongly that one-on-one tutoring is the most effective way to help a child achieve and any child will do well when the teaching is tailored to their needs. I am very flexible with my communication style, and can easily and quickly assess and tailor my teaching style with whomever I am teaching. I like thinking of sharing knowledge as a mutual endeavor, and less like a one way street. While I may "know" more about a particular subject, it is always refreshing to share knowledge with others who may develop a different, unique, and interesting perspective with the material, as human development and advancement does not happen alone.
