First, I analyze my students to determine their learning style. Based on that, I customize my lessons to fit each individual student's needs. I commonly use visual tools such as colorful drawings and try to connect the material to real world situations.
I majored in Biochemistry and Pharmacology at the UNAM in Mexico City. Along with extensive coursework in Biology, Micro Biology, Chemistry, and related subjects, I also worked extensively in the lab conducting experiments connected with these subject areas. I can also tutor Spanish since it is my native language. I have great references from students I am currently working with.

More About This Tutor...

During high school I tutored at an elementary school during two summers for over 300 hours. From January-April 2013 I tutored the AVID program for 17.5 hours a week for all grade levels. From these experiences, I have learned how to encourage and instruct a variety of personalities and skill levels.
I would describe my teaching style as "facilitator" considering the fact that I am able to come up with questions that lead the students to finding the correct process and answers on their own.

Individual & Group Tutoring. Project-Based Enrichment

I have extensive experience as a k-12 and adult teacher of all subjects (excepting advanced math and science) and as a teacher of technology to all ages, including technophobes:) I offer specific subject tutoring, as well as project-based enrichment programs tailored to a student's interest. My experience is wide-ranging. I have taught home school groups in mixed age groups, created a wilderness eco-learning program in Hawaii, and managed a computer lab for middle/high school students that also trained teachers and developed technology-based curriculum. I love to teach:)

A Little Bit About Me...

I have only ever tutored my neighbors two daughters. They both benefitted from it and both of the girls grades went up. Most of the time I would help them with math ,but would also help in any subject they needed, and they would work on their homework as I watched and guided them in the correct direction. If they were truly lost I would reteach the section and try to relate it to something they would better understand. They seemed to enjoy having me over to help and I loved being able to help them when they needed it.
Normally I will watch as the student works and when they get stuck is when I would help them. If they do not understand the material I will go back and teach it again. Once they seem to get it I would give one or two practice problems just to be sure they understand completely. I have no issues with repeating things multiple times if it means furthering the child's kn ... read more

I feel students learn best when they are engaged and interested in the topic. I think relating a topic in a practical and applied approach helps many students retain and apply the information they have learned. Some students work best with "Hands-on" activities (especially for kinesthetic learners), and some students are visual or auditory learners. It's important for me to provide a healthy mixture of these learning styles to make sure the student is reaching their full potential.
I am currently a graduate student at the Florida Institute of Technology, majoring in Marine Biology. I sincerely believe that I have the ability to draw on an individual student's strengths. By having goals that are clear and objectives that help the student sense progress and success, I work with students to take them from where they are to the next place for them to be. Many students have told others that I am one of their favorite teachers. I believe this is because my students know I care, and that I enjoy them as individuals.

I have a more traditional style of teaching-see, say hear and write. This is how I achieved success with both my foreign language students, and my learning disabled students at the Clinic. I also volunteer in my grandson's classroom, and work along with the teacher and the Title ! teacher.
I taught one full year after getting my B.A.-teaching english to foreign students. Then left the profession to begin raising a family. Returned 7 years later and worked as a teacher"s aide in elementary school, then specialized for one year in a special ed classroom. Then began substituting in Spanish and French on a daily and long-term contracted basis in the Syosset, and Northport, L.I. school districts. I decided to get my masters, which would again certify me to teach on a permanent basis in those local districts. Although I was offered two jobs after completing my masters, my husband ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe tutoring is best done in small goups, ranging anywhere from four to twelve students per class. Due to the large descrepancy of abilities between students, I believe it is important to modify lesson plans over the course of class. I always emphasize hands-on learning and real life examples as essential when learning new concepts. It can not be stressed enough the importance of flexibility when preparing for any class.
During my time as an undergraduate student at New York University I tutored a wide range of subjects to students with varying abilities. My experience ranges from tutoring reading skills to elementary school children through the America Reads program, to teaching illiterate and non-English speaking adults basic math and literacy skills under Literacy Partners, Inc., and helped prepare high school students for the reading and math sections of the SAT throu ... read more

I have always believed that a person who is shaping young minds should love what they are teaching to their students. I have a contagious passion for biology that is unyielding, and my students always benefit from this instruction, whether developing a love for it themselves, or simply by succeeding in my classes. My patience, diligence, and love of biology make me an excellent candidate for tutoring middle and high school students.

I began teaching classical ballet to all ages at the age of 18 and have been teaching ever since. I worked for Huntington learning centers as an English and Math tutor and as a math and english teacher at a private christian school for 6-12 grades where I also ran the performing arts program. I spent the first 8 years of my life in West Africa where I learned to speak French as well as English. I homeschooled, teaching all subjects 9-12th grade including History, Science, English, Math, French and electives.
I believe that each child is different and must be taught with that concept in mind. Teaching is motivating each child to want to learn and providing an atmosphere where that desire can develop. Every child has special gifts and as a teacher it is my desire to see those gifts grow and blossom. Everyone has a purpose and teachers are part of defining a child's purpose. I ... read more
