PhD Physics, able to tutor in science, math, engineering

I was a senior scientist - engineer for 37 years. I retired to care for my comatose wife at home, and she died a few months later. This situation has left me open to new directions. My teaching experience has been 3 years as a graduate teaching assistant, and 2 years as a tutor to friends and family in science and mathematics. My goal is to show how math and science can enrich one's life and these subjects are nothing to fear.
I follow the method of G. Polya in his classic work "How to Solve It". By asking the right questions, one can help the student define his problem, form a plan for the solution, carry out the plan, and examine the result. I will work with the students and find where out where they are weakest. By doing so I will be able to give them the knowledge required to understand the material they are struggling with instead of teaching them how to solve the problem at that moment which will prevent them from struggling with mathematics their entire school career. I believe that with out understanding what is going on in the background the students will never fully understand what they are doing. Thus having worked with them to make their weak points their strong points they will gain the confidence needed to go into an exam and pass with a strong grade. I want to help the kids that others have given up on because I feel that it's these students that have the greatest potential to succeed if given the proper guidance in life.
