Experienced teaching students with learning differences

As an Intervention Specialist, I taught in an urban setting for five years. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is basic. I feel it is most important for a student to grasp the basics before they can move on to more complicated subject material. I also am a strong believer of parental involvement. A parent knows their children's learning patterns best. I like to use different approaches. Activities that are visually and mentally stimulting help to form a connection between the student and the lesson. It is important to me that each of my student's set and acheive goals.
As a high school student, I attended Tiffin University to gain college experience and credit earlier than expected. I have brought 2 learning disabled teens into my home to help them graduate High School. Both have gone on to be Certified Welders. I have a variety of experience. Most of my tutoring experience is with older students, aged 15 or older. However, I feel that I could work with younger kids as well. I love learning, and I get excited when a student fully grasps the material. I try and reinforce a teachers method of teaching. However, if repetition is not the issue, than I try and explain topics in different ways with lots of examples.I believe a tutor can really be a great supplement to the classroom teacher.
