Experienced teaching students with learning differences

As an Intervention Specialist, I taught in an urban setting for five years. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is not typical since I am not a certified teacher. I am creative in my teaching style using a variety of techniques. I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible. I try to teach using real life experiences and examples. I break things down into simple parts before moving on to the next level. I have always been a tutor of sorts. I love to teach kids because of the sparkle they get in their eyes when they finally understand what they are being taught. Each child have a different learning style so I try to work with them to see what works for them. I have worked with kids who have ADD and the gifted. I began teaching piano in 1975, the summer after my sophomore year in high school. I continued to teach through college. As a teacher, I have been able to utilize both my BME (Bachelor of Music Education) and my Bachelor and subsequent Masters Degrees in Music Therapy to support my students wide range of learning needs.
