I have had six months of experience working in an elementary school, I took a childhood intern class. I worked with 2nd and 5th graders. I mostly helped them with reading and math subjects. There were many times I would work with the students in groups and individually. There were also times I did mini lessons teaching the whole class.

I use the Orton- Gilingham multi sensory approach.

I Have worked for the Davis County School district for 12 years. The last few years I have been working intervention for students who are not performing at grade level. I have learned that not all kids can learn the way they are taught in school. My 8 year old is dyslexic. I Have studied the Orton-Gilingham multisensory approach to reading and spelling. I have also learned to engage children in activities that are fun and creative. I will not be doing the same teaching style as there school.
ORTON-Gilingham multi sensory approach. Math without words until the concept is mastered. Using lots of manipulatives including video games, that teach concepts.

I specialize in motivating the unmotivated!

I started out my teaching career as a reading specialist for struggling readers in grades 1 through 6. I am trained in a program called Next Steps, which was designed by educators at the University of Utah, for readers below grade level. All of the students that I tutored saw significant improvements in reading and writing by the end of the school year. I then moved on to become a regular first grade teacher for two years. During this time, I was able to further hone my skills in making learning fun and engaging. I believe this is the key to helping students do well in school. While I taught full time I had a part time job as a martial arts instructor for children aged 3 to 17, which eventually became my full-time career.
