I use a variety of teaching styles, until I find out a style that appeals to the student I am working with. Some students are visual, while others are kinesthetic like myself. I have worked at Pulaski Technical College for 3 years tutoring several math and Science Courses. I love tutoring and enjoy assisting others in the pursuit of knowledge. I worked as a teachers assistant at Pulaski technical college for the head of the Biology department. I held a class that was not required but encouraged by the school to help the students in the biology course prepare for test and answer questions regarding labs. This class took place after the regular scheduled class and lab each week. My goal is really for the person I am tutoring to fully understand the information they are trying to learn. In this way, they can understand the basics and build upon that. I believe the best way to approach a new student is to find out their weaknesses and strengths. Then, really put some hard work into making their weak points better and making their strong points the best they can be. I think that it is best for a student to know how to do their work with AND without a calculator for full understanding in mathematics. Finally, I think it is important for a tutor to try to be a friend to the student so that the environment is comfortable and inviting for the best learning outcomes. I have been in some aspect of education for over 21 years. My experience includes tutoring math and science for Talent Search in 1990, teaching biology, chemistry, physics, physical science, applied math 2, principles of technology I & II, algebra I workshop, general science, life science, earth science and environmental science to grades 7-12 the past 18 years, physical science on a college level, and currently tutor 8-12 grades in science and teach intro to chemistry and environmental science on a college level.
