What tools I use in the classroom really depends on the student's learning style and course material. Some individuals learn by performing tasks, while others learn by reading or hearing the material to be learned. I use a variety of methods depending on the course such as: PowerPoint, Internet, Lectures, Whiteboard, Student Presentations, and individuals within the community to discuss their current views on health care and their roles in Medical Billing/Coding.

I worked as a Teacher's Assistant at West Virginia university and taught my own section of a one credit course required of all freshmen students while working on a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. While working on my MA in English Literature with a Certificate in Folklore at George Mason university, I worked as a substitute teacher and then was hired as a full time middle school English teacher. I teach from the known to the unknown (i.e. taking a concept that is already known, or an everyday activity, and relating it to new concepts. I vary the teaching style to maintain the interest of the student. I use questions and answers, telling, demonstrating, or having students try experiments themselves. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that everyone is teachable, if the student has the desire and the teacher has the commitment. I tend to be a patient teacher, with high standards. I actively question the student, which allows me to challenge the student in my presence, where I am able to guide him/her. While I have predominantly tutored college students, I have also taught adults and children. My sister-in-law is probably my biggest supporter, since she has watched me teach my nephews (now 9 and 10) an array of subjects over the years.
