A Little Bit About Me...

For math problems, I usually work problems and explain each step, and then have the student attempt to work a similiar one when they feel like they understand the problems. I try to be as helpful as possible while still focusing on the goal of total understanding for the student, as well as the ability to work a similiar problem independently with confidence. For paper writing, I would have the student brainstorm some ideas, and then together we could discuss the pro's and con's of the topic and organization choice, and provide tips on how we could better the assignment. I am willing to give as much or as little help as a parent would prefer, as good grades are one goal but the students mastery of the material is the most important.
I have not tutored publicly before, but have tutored friends children/ family members for standardized tests such as the high school history and englis ... read more

Chemistry Made Easy

I received my bachelor's degree in chemistry (ACS Certified) from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2009 and my master's degree in organic chemistry from Vanderbilt University in 2012. Throughout my undergraduate education, I acted as an official tutor for the chemistry department and as a teaching assistant for the general chemistry and chemistry for non-majors teaching labs. As a teaching assistant, I was responsible for presenting pre-lab lectures, demonstrating experimental setups, and grading quizzes and lab reports. I have worked as a tutor since high school and have remained active as a tutor throughout my additional education.
One of the best advantages of one-on-one tutoring is the opportunity to adapt your teaching style to best suit the needs of that individual student. Since all students learn differently, I strongly believe that your teaching style should remai ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I spend much of time making the student understand that it is okay to feel behind in a subject and that the student should believe in himself. This belief is built on continued practice on fundamentals that I watch them go through but only ask questions when I see them going astray. Everyone needs to learn the material for his or herself. My place is to make sure they learn the right methods to solve the problem and ensure that they know those methods beyond the tutoring session.
I have been tutoring professional for six years and teaching for five. I am certified by the state of Tennessee to teach secondary math. I have worked with all levels of students, from remedial to gifted. I have worked from age 7 through adult learners and had a positive impact at each age and level.

In May of 2010, I successfully completed my fourth year of teaching. Each year has been different. The children of today learn in many different ways. There has been a change in learning styles over the course of time. Some children may learn through hands on activities and modeling, while others learn through lecture. Regardless of the learning style, I have learned that it is my job to make learning relevant and meaningful to students.
The role of the teacher is to be a facilitator. The teacher facilitates the students in making personal decisions as well as participates in discussions that affect society. The teacher also helps build a foundation in subject matter to help develop a lifelong appreciation and understanding of the world through different disciplines.

All my life I have loved to learn. I thrive on academics, and I remember my college and high school days with fondness. It makes me sad to see students struggle, their frustration pushing out any passion for what they are learning. As a tutor, I try to instill my own passion inside of them. Learning is exciting, and sometimes a change in perspective is all that is needed to bring understanding. I work with the student to find the best, most effective, approach to a subject. I am patient, friendly, and I'm very good at what I do. There is nothing so rewarding as to see the light of understanding come into the eyes of my students.
Growing up, I was always very gited academically. I never struggled with school, and learning was an easy pleasure. I graduated as valedictorian, and when I got to college I started tutoring to help others that had more difficulty in class. I didn ... read more

I began tutoring after my first semester of College at Lambuth University. I was an “A” student in Calculus, so I began assisting other students with their homework. As a result, my Calculus professor signed me up for Lambuth’s Peer Tutoring Program and I was paid an hourly wage for tutoring my peers. By the fall of my sophomore year, I was tutoring up to 8 students in mathematics. After college I started volunteering my tutoring services in my church and the community. A few years later, I started my own private tutoring service and began tutoring students in various subjects, including reading, mathematics, science and social studies. I have also tutored students in Spanish. In 2005, I began volunteering my tutoring services through Volunteer Memphis’ MCS Tutoring Program. Through this program, I currently tutor mathematics, primarily in the middle schools and occasionally in t ... read more
