I have 22 years experience of working with students ages 6 to 17 in two different countries. I taught elementary for two years in India and 4 years of 6th grade to 10th grade in India. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in California for one year in a middle school in a special education classroom. I got the opportunity to work as a T.A in St.Paul School District for 2 years with special needs students in an elementary school. As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I really do place something of a premium on being able to connect with all of my students on an academic and personal level. I believe that this helps them as they know that their teacher and tutor cares about them and their future and, as such, this causes them to grow and excel. I can attest to such things happening with many of my students and for that I am incredibly thankful.
I have done a lot of teaching and tutoring, both with adults and young people. Most of my experience, though, comes from working with high school and junior high school students. I spent the majority of that time as a tutor/ mentor and would work with the students one on one or in small groups, both in the library or in the classroom. I became interested in tutoring during my three years of graduate study at Princeton Theological Seminary. Studying theology in my undergraduate and graduate work required me to invest strongly in multiple subjects such as history, philosophy, languages, politics and literature. This equipped me to tutor multiple subjects at various levels.

I believe that you can make any subject matter easy by focusing on the basics and relating the subject matter to things the student can identify with. With grammar and mechanics, I have found that a directive manner is often the best approach; sometimes, however, students require clarification of ideas and organization, in which case I pose questions and share observations, rather than instruct.
