A Little Bit About Me...

My tutoring began in when I was employed with Nazareth Colleges' Partners for Learning program. This program worked with several schools in the Rochester, NY area to provide in school and after school tutoring and teaching assistance to children grades 6-12. I specialized at one school, Hope Hall in Gates, NY, where I worked with students who had a variety of learning challenges. I assisted students with subjects such as: English, Spanish, French, math, language arts, science and social studies. I worked with Partners for Learning for two years from 2005-2006 while I was finishing my undergraduate degree. I have also been employed as a substitute teacher in my hometown of Rochester, NY.

I feel that my style of teaching is student centered. I am a facilitator to the learning process. Any student who chooses to learn can and will, however some students need more motivation than others. Thus, I take the time to hear about and understand what my students know and more importantly do not know and want or need to know. I also want to know how my students learn best before I start teaching them. In a general classroom setting, I try to ensure I do something for all learners. Working as a tutor has given me the opportunity to demonstrate great leadership among my peers and students while creating a positive environment. I attended Northern Arizona University, whereupon I fell in love with sociology. I have a firm grasp of basic and advanced sociological concepts, specializing in historical analysis and research methods. After school, I spent my time working temporary jobs, and found one that I thoroughly enjoyed. At Wyko I aquired a set of technical skills that allowed me to work on some of the most advanced instruments of the day. So far as my teaching is concerned, I have been teaching for a number of years as a full-time instructor for elementary students.
