I am a huge advocate of learning 'why' something happens vs 'how' it happens. In mathematics, anyone can learn a formula, an expression, or an equation if they look at it enough times, but they would not know how to apply it in real life situations. However, if a students learns the application of the formula and how it works, bigger chances they will remember it or can derive it when recalling the information. Learning the 'why' WILL lead to learning the 'how'
I have excelled in mathematics going all the way back to elementary school. Studied general mathematics in college. Have tutored at least 20 students on a variety of subjects in math, outside of school involvement. Worked in the math tutor lab at CSU during enrollment. I have tutored students in middle school and below on general subjects also (i.e science, social studies, english, etc).

My teaching style is flexible. Students learn in different ways and at different paces. It is my job to discover how the students learn and what they respond best to. For some subjects, repetition is very important and for others a clearer understanding of the concepts involved is more valuable. I like to start with small skills and build on them.

A Little Bit About Me...

During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked with parents when I owned/operated my private daycare. I have since then worked with children in low poverty communities in Atlanta Georgia, in order to provide an alternative method to learning to ensure that children receive the appropriate level of understanding of various subjects.
What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. During high school I worked as a volunteer in St. Petersburg, Florida through All Children’s Hospital. Within the Bedside Buddies Program, I was able to spend over 200 hours working with physically and mentally challenged children to maintain their grades when they were experiencing long staying in the hospital.
