A Little Bit About Me...

I am a driven individual who has obtained a Masters in Social Work with a concentration in Child Welfare in addition to a BA in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. While attending graduate school I worked as a substitute teacher which allowed me to gain experience working with children of various ages and levels. I believe in personal interaction with students – making them write, making them read – going over every detail, looking at the issues (grammar, punctuation, syntax, coherent structure (logic, unity, transitions, parallelism,)) and then re-writing and re-reading. The key to doing well in English is understanding basic structure and making it become second nature when writing. Through personal interaction, the process can be simplified by working hands on with each sentence and paragraph. A student learns best when he/she actually reads and writes and has someone to work with on the structure – through a workshop type approach – writing and re-writing. As a previous Tupelo Public School Spanish teacher, I have six years experience teaching grades four through six.In addition, I received my BS in Social Work from the University of Mississippi where I graduated with honors.My courses have given me extensive preparation in many areas, such as writing and grammatical skills. I have worked as a translator, interpreter, art teacher,and Spanish tutor for students of many age groups, including high school.
My years teaching were thus far the most rewarding times of my life. To see a child's face light up when he/she has that moment of "I get it!", is a priceless feeling for me. My teaching style is uncomplicated and simple,so the student can keep up easily.Since language is best learned through repetition, I make sure I go over the material several times and proceed only when the student has a clear grasp of the material.
