A Little Bit About Me...

As a certified teacher I taught for 3 years in inner city Phoenix. I worked with diverse cultures needing strong literary support. A self written curriculum designed includes strong phonics, vocabulary, reading and grammar. 2 years experience as a tutor for the AZ Dept. of Ed. for Math and Language Arts for 8-12th . Math courses taught included lectured instruction & centered learning. Hands on experiments are vital to making a visual/ life connection. I taught evening classes for Wildlife Conservation & Life Sciences to grades 5- 6 inner city youth. I have taught Autism for 3 years prior to Phoenix and other disabilities 5 years prior to that. I am interested in tutoring because I love teaching regardless of the subject matter. I’ve been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try several different content areas such as Special Education 7th grade Science in a Push-In model, ESOL, Home and Careers, Career and Financial Management as well as substitute teaching in many areas K-12, in addition to teaching technology in multiple districts. My background as a manufacturing engineer gives me a vantage point of what is required in the real world for success and survival in the working world. All children and adolescents can successfully acquire and process new information. Many students encounter difficulty learning in a traditional school setting because the large class sizes do not afford the teacher the time to learn about each individual and attend to his or her specific needs. As a tutor, I find my students' strongest learning modalities. In doing so, my students learn to trust and respect me as a person and see me as a support.
