I completed my Ph.D. degree in Marine Biology and have been working at a university for 10 years in New Jersey. I have extensive teaching experience. For years, I have been directing and training undergraduate and high school students in genetics. I am currently teaching Chinese Mandarin as a Second Language at a local Chinese School over the weekend. I am also offering 1-1 tutoring for 2 American adults according to their needs and goals.

A Little Bit About Me...

I use a very interactive teaching style which encourages students to think out a problem and to understand it in a way that makes most sense to them. I use analogies to make more complex concepts more accessible to the student, and as a way to help them to learn and understand the concepts.
After 18 years in the pharmaceutical and medical fields I have set my sights to earning my teaching certification. I am a father of three, a Volunteer Fire Fighter and self described science buff. My approach to tutoring is to first make the student feel comfortable and to realize that they are not "stupid" or inferior because they need help. Then I find out specifically where they are having difficulties and concentrate on that area. If they still are having difficulties in that area, I will move on to the next topic so that they don't get frustrated. Once they have obtained some level of confidence, I will revisit the area where they were having difficulties. I believe in positive feedback, so I will motivate my students through encouraging words and praise, without being patronizing.
I earned my MA degree in Biology from Villanova University in December 1997.
