A Little Bit About Me...

As a Humboldt State University Student I was buried in English for Eight hours a day, five full years. My emphasis was in YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE, and I have read and reread all the books in the California State High School Curriculum multiple times. I have worked as a tutor for Junior High School children, College English students of all ages, and taught special education at Arcata High School to small groups of special needs kids, who want to learn/read/understand English better. I have a love for literature and a natural ability to unravel books into bite sized, easily digestible chunks. I can explain it simply, using "apples and oranges."

The students I enjoy working with most are teenagers. They are in a truly dynamic phase of growth, in that their intellects are blossoming in ways that are entirely new to them, while their emotions and bodies go through great and often difficult translformations. The power of these changes, along with their curiosity and insight, can be harnessed to create very exciting learning experiences. I've had one formal year of education in programming at College of the Redwoods. The first semester course I took was intro to C++, and the second semester course was C++ with Data Structures. At HSU I studied extensively in the field of education; cumulating in writing and presenting lessons to students at Eureka High. Currently, I have been studying C# and writing small applications in my spare time. In addition, I have been programming a microcontroller in pBASIC via a serial cable.
I would seek to emulate the university style of lecture and assigning hands on projects. I believe this is the most effective model since it provides repetition, allowing the student to better memorize the material. Furthermore, projects allow the student to be creative, and design programs in his or her own fashion.
