My comments on tutoring Math : I am very comfortable with math, having taught it at all grade levels. I have even tutored adults for SAT prep and occupational testing. I enjoy the subject because of the diversity of students who seek help in it. My goal is to remove the mystery of the subject, address its subtle presence in everyday life, & make it an area of comfort for reluctant students rather than an area of dread. At every opportunity, I try to make it fun, not frightening.

I consider myself a facilitator of knowledge, encouraging my students to discover answers for themselves. To me, the process of acquiring knowledge is as important as the knowledge itself. With gentle prodding, building on what students already know, they progress quickly through problems and/or assignments. Students know much more than they think they know. Because they are doing their own thinking, they're already invested in the process. When their answers come, they own them. This increases their confidence in tackling more challenging work & in realizing their own potential. The knowledge is out there, waiting to be discovered. It is this discovery that makes teaching and learning so rewarding.

I love teaching others and have worked with a variety of people, who were from any level of elementary through college. My favorite part about teaching is when a student has the “Ah- ha” moment, reminding me that anyone is capable of learning a concept with practice and guidance. ... read more

I believe that the best way to teach is by integrating the artistic with the rational and have even founded a non-profit organization that is dedicated to teaching sustainability and systems theory using a combined approach. I hope to provide students with examples of interconnectedness in order for them to be able to synthesize information presented during lectures and readings with other aspects of their lives. I'm a very enthusiastic, patient, and inquiring teacher. My joy comes from building confidence and empowering students with the methods to tackle any problem.

Teaching requires a patient, easygoing individual since not all students learn at similar speeds. There is not one single way to teach, so it is important to encompass different approaches. With this realization, I will teach with an open-mind to strive for effectiveness and success. I will be respectful of my students at all times, even during times of struggle. Pulling through obstacles is what builds character and perseverance, and I know I have performed my job when the student achieves his/her goal of further understanding. Often times, children only begin to tap into their potential when someone else believes in them first. I will be that believer, so that soon each of them shall grow into his/her own motivator.
