I believe that children need to find a reason to have a goal of being educated. Coming from a small town and having such a global perspective, I love helping children see their place in this vast world and that they are an important global citizen. I try to show them through energetic discovery, that all this "boring stuff" leads to much more interesting and and fun stuff. Children need to know that they are important assets to us all and that they are more than capable of over acheiving whatever they set out to do.
Studying French and Russian Studies at Stetson allowed me gain more than a grasp on those two languages, but insight to the cultures, an appreciation for and ability to interpret literature and poetry, a deeper understanding of history, geography, and politics as well as a desire to share all of this with others.

I initially try to find what he/she is struggling with,and what strengths and weaknesses are present. I allow the person to ask questions in a fluid, spontaneous, "let's see as we tackle this together" manner. When something is not understood, I try to give analogies, examples that the person can relate to. I also may explain the subject matter in a more simplified, methodical fashion. I believe learning can be made appealing, if you find out how the person operates. Learning is the key to just about everything, so I take seriously the importance of assisting someone in the tutoring field.

When I begin tutoring a new student, my first objective is for us to get to know each other. The student will not be able to receive very much from me until he/she is comfortable with me. Once they feel that I care, they open up and the learning really begins!
