More About This Tutor...

I teach the basic concepts of acting through Stanislavski and Chekhov. I focus on character development as well as scene analysis. When analyzing a play or story, I focus on the basic concepts such as inciting incidents, major dramatic question, climax, the point of attack, resolution, the theme, and characters. I work with the student so he/she can find these elements and talk about them and expound on them. I work as fast or as slow as the student needs.
I earned my A.A. in Theatre Arts at College of Central Florida in Ocala, Florida. I then moved to Lakeland and earned my B.A. in Theatre Performance at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Last summer I was an assistant teacher for the summer camp at the Civic Theatre in Ocala, Florida.

More About This Tutor...

I have a wide range of experiences in both Finance and Computers. Tutoring isn't something that I have specifically done, in the past, but I have taught numerous classes throughout my career. The classes have been both in small groups and one on one. My military experience included two separate assignments where I taught newly entered officers into the military.
My style of teaching is to allow the student to learn by doing. This is supplemented with encouragement, guidance, and occasionally talking through why a specific answer is correct. There have been many times that I wish I had become a teacher but using the old saying: work always got in my way. Teachers, next to parents, are the most important person in a growing child's life. They can make a difference. I am extremely patient with children of all ages and believe that anyone can do better if they put their mi ... read more

Everyone has always told me that I was born to be a teacher, that I have an innate gift to decipher what a student needs and to promote success and accomplish goals. I am patient, considerate and flexible. Learning occurs through teachable moments every day, and it is how we respond to these moments that determines our future. Student needs and learning styles vary and educational structure should be adapted to the individual needs of the student. I enjoy all of my students and learn something new from every one. After all, it only takes one idea, one lesson to change a life.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recently retired school teacher/administrator. My career has included serving as an elementary teacher of 4th and 5th grades as well as Special educator in grades pre-school to high school aged students. For five years, I served as a principal of elementary and middle schools. I am certified to teach all subjects in these areas and am certified in NY and FL.
My teaching style could best be described as democratic and socratic. I believe all teachers need to be well prepared for the classroom and ready to shift gears when a question might demand it. I believe that teaching and learning are one in the same. Teacher and student should be ready to teach and learn together. I am patient and willing to go as quickly or as slowly as needed. Students determine the pace, and delivery of instruction is based on the needs of the students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working as a private tutor from my home or student's home for 3 years. I have tutored elementary through college level students. I am able to teach a variety of subjects, however my forte is English and Composition. I have the honor of being a published author. I am an expert in MLA or APA style writing. I have also tutored in College Algebra, elementary math, Biology, and Reading. I speak conversational French, and am able to teach up to the secondary level.
It is my belief that everyone is able to learn, and what produces that ability is having support. So many instructors give up on those not favored as "prized" students, and in turn, these students just slide through. I know it takes time and effort to get some students enthused about education, and I make it my goal to help them with this.

I would describe my teaching style as very patient and child-oriented. I believe I am good at meeting the child where he or she is at and then taking them to the next level quickly. I do not believe in wasting time if there is mastery of a subject and this includes being willing to devote more time to the true areas of difficulty. I am very praising and positive and believe in showing a child not just how to succeed in a sepcific subject but how to develop skills that will help them succeed in all areas including life!
I graduated in 1981 with a French Degree and proceeded to work in Community Centers and YMCA-type facilities doing program development, coaching, after-school and summer camp activities as well as hands-on childcare and some tutoring. I always loved working with kids and recently decided take things to the next level and become a teacher. I relish the idea of he ... read more

I am a creative educator and development professional with over 15 years teaching, curriculum development and program implementation experience spanning several countries and a diversified portfolio of projects in the arts, health and social services, education, government, non-profit and for profit sectors. Many people who have taught at one time say they are former educators when listing their past employment as teachers. I am however, a lifelong educator. I have over a decade of teaching/training experience, particularly at the adult school, vocational setting or university level and more than five years of test preparation and materials development experience.

A Little Bit About Me...

While completing my B.A. in Management at Eckerd, I learned how to write effectively and enhanced my understanding of grammar, mathematics, history, social studies and economics. As a volunteer tutor at a public school and at my church, I began to develop my teaching skills. These rewarding experiences motivated me to become a full-time teacher. Teaching English and Learning Strategies for four years has taught me how to address students’ individual needs. I enhanced my knowledge further by successfully completing two American Literature courses last summer. I continue volunteer teaching children and young adults at two different organizations.
I discovered my love of teaching when I started volunteering as a reading tutor and youth group leader. I am most effective when I work with students in a one-on-one or small group setting, which allows me to focus on individual students’ ... read more

Since the beginning of my career I have been integrating different subject to my classroom in order for them to see the relationship between a language and their surroundings. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a love for helping people- especially children. Before I became a teacher I was a social worker; that's when I realized that I held a special place for children who are in more difficult situations than most people. I am a very easy-going person but I always expect my students as well as myself to always put their best effort forward. I like to push all children to meet their potential and I take pride in proving they can do things they and others thought they weren't capable of doing. Everyone deserves an opportunity to learn regardless of their learning styles or backgrounds.
I have always enjoyed learning and have pushed myself to seek higher degrees to enhance my knowledge. I have a BA in psychology and I am currently working on my Masters in psychology. I have written numerous research papers and essays and I am now in the process of completing my thesis. English ... read more

My "style" is flexible to suit the needs of the child. For example: I was assigned a student who was 9 years old to learn cto count to ten, colors, shapes, write her name, the alphabet, and read very simple sentences. The counting posed a serious challenge. She seemed terrified of numbers. I found a menu on her family's refrigerator of her favorite Pizzeria. I engaged the child in a discussion about Pizza, and used coins in my pocket, along with the flash cards to help her grasp the numbers. After that, I began (with parental approval), to order her favorite pizza once per week, and when delivery came, we counted the money together to pay the bill. No reimbursement for pizzas was expected.
