My start in music began with trips from a young age to my mom's rehearsals. As a young child my first instrument of interest was the drums and noticing that I wasn't that good (sister playing better) I quickly moved on to other instruments. During my tenth grade year I joined my high school's marching band playing the trombone. I decided to continue the trombone as my primary instrument while in college at Grambling State University. There I was also able to study other instruments such as bass guitar, piano and organ. Going to college in Louisiana, which has such a musically rich environment, allowed me the opportunity to play venues such as casinos, clubs, appear in commercials and even a halftime show for super bowl 32 as well as other NFL games. My goal for teaching music is to give students the discipline to achieve all of their life's goals.

My passion is teaching, especially elementary students. But, I have tutor music students for 41 years. My school of thought is that I need to teach my students using different styles. My style tends to range based on who I am trying to teach, and I suppose is most accurately labeled as adaptive. I understand that different people learn things in different ways, and so I try to accommodate that with my teaching. For instance if I found that a student learns better visually then I would attempt to use visual cues and examples in lesson plans to make the material as easy to understand as possible. I also believe in keeping a very loose and pleasant atmosphere, and making sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe, which I believe also assists in the learning process. My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I believe that all children have different styles or method of learning. I will often give students a choice designing and implementing their own complex learning projects and will act in a consultative role. In many cases, I will also teach a the students with diagrams or other images associated to the particular lecture. I enjoy young students company and I do not get frustrated or irate easily. I am a very optimistic individual who can bring the best in people, whether its through education or personal.
