One of my greatest tools has been mathematics. I enjoy working with numbers and solving problems. At Boise State University I was the coordinator and facilitator for the Active Learning in Mathematics Program, I lead a twelve member engineering student team and coordinated twenty plus math sessions. I was promoted based on leadership roles, determination, team work, going beyond job requirements to achieve objectives, and implemented new ideas. I improved the program by increasing student attendance, availability, collaboration, and teaching skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children, as I have coached or tutored school aged children for the last six years. This has taught me to be very patient as well as given me the ability to approach a subject from three or four different angles until the student gets it. I often ask many questions in an attempt to get the student to come to conclusions on their own, rather than me telling them outright. This allows the student to put things in their own terms, a process which I believe allows for a deeper understanding of the material.
I have always loved Math and Science, which is what led me to complete a BS in Physics with a Minor in Mathematics. My education allows me to be confident in many areas of math and science. Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways. Knowing this can help the child discover what works specifically to him/her. If a child learns to reason for his/her self, they gain the ability to be lifetime learners. My hope is, that instead of dreading school they gain confidence in their abilities to figure things out, and therefore find joy in learning. Above all it is important to listen to the kids, stay positive, and never show frustration.
Over the past year I have tutored through The College of Idaho's Chemistry Club. Chemistry, especially the math portions, never came easily to me.
