My comments on tutoring Biology : Very knowledgeable in the subject and taught as a substitute teacher in area high school.

Accepted to an internship with International Ergonomics Corporation in 1990. Experience in industrial injuries, taught back safety courses, performed Functional Capacity Evaluation, Job Risk Analysis, and Job Placement Testing. Was selected as Physical Therapy Department in the U.S. Navy from 2002 - 2006 were I supervised the treatment and testing of military personnel, and taught back safety/rehab classes and post-surgical class for rehabilitation of the knee. Have substitute taught from 2009 - present for local high school.
My teaching style is very interactive with the student. The student is provided with the skill and information on the subject and then they explain their knowledge and understanding of that subject. This is either done to fellow classmates in a "student teacher" role or to me.

Biology is one of my top subjects!

Especially open to meet each students individual needs, whatever they may be.
I am a high school student who has completed their junior year. Much experience working with younger sibling up to eight grade, I have consistently high test scores and instructor reviews in the areas of French, English, and Biology. I very much enjoy helping others learn, and see it as an opportunity for growth between both the tutor and the student.

Biology is one of my top subjects! I have a B.S. in Biology, an M.A. in Entomology, and several credit hours towards a Ph.D in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I have taught both lecture and laboratory sections of General Biology at the college level and high school level. In addition to my formal teaching experiences, I also worked as a zoo educator for many years teaching about animals, biomes, ecology, and conservation. My background working as a biologist in various fields has been an invaluable asset to my teaching of the subject. Having worked as a researcher at the Human Genome Project and at the University of Kansas in labs studying animal behavior, genetics, and evolution, I have firsthand knowledge of real world applications of biology that make learning the subject relevant to people.

The defining characteristic of my teaching method, whether in a classroom or tutoring individual students, is fostering a respectful and comfortable learning environment. I believe that the foundation for this environment is created by establishing small, personal connections with the student. I try to take every opportunity to get to know a student’s’ personal interests. This allows me to choose meaningful examples and metaphors that students will be more likely to understand and remember. It also makes study sessions engaging and conversational which always benefits learning, in my experience. Organizational skills are essential to learning and I always address this component at the start of working with a student. Seeing how a student organizes his or her class materials, such as notes, handouts, and graded assignments, helps me identify problems that can be resolved with ... read more

More About This Tutor...

During my Junior and Senior year of college, I tutored at a Children's Home in Lubbock, TX, 3 nights a week. I have also taught Sunday School classes off and on for the past 15 years for ages 1 year to 14 years old. I volunteer on a regular basis at my son's school, and have worked with the students primarily with Math and English.
I enjoy working with, and teaching, kids, especially in Math. I teach with creative tactics, when necessary, to drive home a concept. I am patient with kids (hey, I have 3 of my own!), and find it rewarding when I can make a difference.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have two children of my own and understand that all people learn in their own way. I have proven success with helping children find the way to learn that works best for them. Both of my kids are in the talented and gifted programs at school. I am patient but firm and do not like to waste time or money. I love to watch a person figure it out and see the confidence building smile when the ideas finally start to click. My goal is to teach a person to learn on their own, think on their own and realize that they can accomplish anything once they learn how.
I have extensive experience in the field of Business Management particularly in Accounting. I graduated from Rockhurst University, a Jesuit University well known for its business graduates. I have owned my own business and worked as an independent contractor for the last six years in the Kansas City area. I have spent time vol ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with an Early Childhood/Elementary degree, I took the 3-6 year old Montessori training. I began teaching in a private Montessori school for 5 years. I then worked part time in various positions including substituting for 10 years while my daughters were in school. I was the Director of a Head Start daycare in the inner city which serviced many refugees. For the last 3 years I have taught 2nd grade in a typically hispanic school in the inner city.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine. Watching a student light up after learning how to do something is the greatest thing for me. I believe children can learn and be successful but each in different ways. I believe we as teachers must use differentiated instruction to help all students learn. My students learn immediately that I care about them and desire for them to be successful learners. I ask them to do ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My form of teaching is such that it involves the students more than the tutor. I encouraged the student to be able to solve problems on their own. Call me when there is a problem that the student needs help. I love to know what part of the questions they don’t understand and help them to understand. To me interaction with students on particular question and trying to figuring out solutions together are more important than the final answer.
I first became interested in tutoring college. Then I started teaching both chemistry and math at both high school and college levels over the years. I have also been involved in conducting labs for undergraduate students at all level in the department of chemistry. I have worked with research intuitions like the Department of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Education Republic of Liberia. I think with this I have been able to deal wit ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping people, love math and all sciences. Always trying different ways and methods with patient when I'm doing the job of tutoring. Always recognize what type of problems they have, whether it's academically or personally. When I tutor, I try not to tell students the answer, rather, tell them how to get the answer, give them some starting steps, describe the steps in a different problem so they can work out the answer by themselves and learn the way. I always trying to be friends with the students, care about their lives so that they will trust me and make the whole tutoring experience much more enjoyable and effective for both of us.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent of two school-aged children I have had the oppurtunity to learn about the newest teaching methods employed by teachers at this time. We often work together on math and science. I am currently working on my teaching certification in middle school science, but have always been had excelent aptitude for mathmatics. I also substitute in the Blue Springs, Grain Valley and Fort Osage School district in which I often assist students with work that has been left for them by the teacher, whether it be math, science or english. I am also a published writer and continue to write every day.
The most important thing to remember when teaching a child new concepts is patience. All children learn skills in different ways. Some catch on quickly, others need more time. Even the way in which you demonstrate how a problem is solved can make a difference. I usually try several methods for s ... read more

I have taught at the post-secondary level, and have worked with my disabled daughter. I consider myself to be my own harshest critic, and I believe in working with a student's strengths instead of setting them up for failure.
I believe in applying lessons to real life. I try to find common ground with everyone I meet, and consider myself to be friendly and open to consideration of all viewpoints. I believe my ability to make a vague concept become relevant is my best talent.
