Early on in my career I spent 1 1/2 years as a substitute teacher in the areas of math and science, including several months as a long-term substitute in chemistry. For the last 20+ years I have been employed as a chemist/scientist/supervisor in both government and corporate settings. I obtained a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Structural Analysis. The course work gave me a very strong understanding of Mathematics, and Physics. Also, the quantity of lab reports I have written has given me an advantage in writing non-technical reports along with technical reports. I have worked as a college math privately and through other companies.
My teaching style is very simple and I believe it is effective. I have found that going through problems does not always help kids learn.
