My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : As I described earlier in the spelling section, I love phonics! Phonics and spelling is basically the same skill: using letters and their sounds to build words (with the exception of high frequency words)

I have taught in a first and second grade classroom for ten years, and served as a Reading Specialist for k-5 for seven. I have discovered that the most successful way to teach a child how to read is gaining their interest and full attention, while observing what learning style is best for each individual child. While teaching I use an assortment of manipulatives, repetitive phonics instruction, and books! Whatever works for your child, works for me! This is my first year not teaching in the public schools, and I am very familiar with the assessments and expectations. I have led professional development on mclass for K-3, and have years of successful experiences in preparing students for EOGs. My teaching style is one that can easily appeal to elementry students because I keep subjects interesting and fun while also being seriouse to help make sure that the students understand what is needed to be learned and understood.
