A Little Bit About Me...

I am a passionate mentor of youth and children in a church setting. For 5 years I have mentored a youth group of 12-25 junior high and high school students. As a Sunday School teacher and Youth leader for ten years, I am experienced with group teaching and specialize in one-on-one tutoring/teaching. I have successfully homeschooled my own 3 children and tutored public elementary school children, one on one, for Club Z. My vast life experience with youth and my Bachelor of Science from Kent State University have both provided me with a wealth of knowledege and ability that I strongly desire to share.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience began in high school, when I would review and edit my classmates essays. On several occasions, I also went through essays line by line. In addition, I taught swim lessons to preschool aged children, and helped coach crew to high school aged students. Throughout college, I continued to aid my peers with their essays, and often participated in workshops outside of class. As a writer, I have extensively studied methods of teaching to English Language Learners, and native speakers alike. I have also conducted research in rhetoric studies and language acquisition. In short, I love English written and spoken, and I have a passion for teaching.

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout college I was a tutor with a Learning Center. I worked with children in grades K-12. At this center, we helped build reading and math skills individually and in groups. I was also a private tutor for a high school student. Together we improved her study skills and organization. I assisted her with writing assignments, projects, and daily homework. I also worked in the Camden County school system as a substitute teacher and secretary. At Mercer University, I earned my BA in Communications and Theater Arts, and an English minor. I also hold certifications through GACE (Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators) in Early Childhood Education and Middle Grades Language Arts.

I believe the greatest asset to learning for anyone at any age is learning "how" to learn. I like to use modern techniques and ideas to creatively teach a child or adult a new concept. I am patient and unique.
I have a passion for teaching and as such opened a tutoring service that I ran for four years. I hold a Bachelors of General Studies from Valdosta State University and will graduate with my Master of Business Administration in May 2010. I excel at tutoring in English, sociology, psychology, mathematics, science, literature, and social studies.
