While in college myself, I tutored other students in college algebra. I also helped students with basic, intro level college math courses. I earned my nursing degree in May 2013. The method of teaching used will depend on the subject and student. As a general rule, I prefer method of explanation, demonstration, and drill. The person being tutored must have a desire to learn. This can be fostered in children by explaining how they will benefit from learning the material.

I have experience with teaching having completed three semesters of internships through my undergraduate and graduate programs; I taught Kindergarten, First and Seventh grades. In said roles, I was given full control of the classroom by my mentoring supervisors. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and impacting young lives (most of these students came from low socio-economic backgrounds and were gravely in need of guidance). The most important element of achieving success in school is self confidence. The way I help build that in children is by being extremely positive, supportive, and full of praise. I observe their behavior carefully to make sure they truly understand what they are being taught. When something is challenging to a child, I try different methods until I know it “clicked”. Another very important part of tutoring is communicating with the students’ guardians about their behavior or any stressors.
