I actually think I have tutored statistics at UCLA but cannot remember clearly - much of my tutoring has been in bits and pieces and volunteer or related to class work. In 2002 I taught a semester at Art Institute of California | San Diego. I wrote my own curriculum and taught four different classes in computer graphics (Adobe, Quark, Etc.) I tutored students after class hours. Other tutoring: I tutored Chemistry and English to ESL students in High School. I taught work skills (one on one) to the developmentally disabled (as part of a UCLA's Developmental Disabilities Immersion Project). My UCLA degree was slanted toward Psychometrics and Methodology and I did graduate level statistics at UCLA. I taught and tutored computer skills at American Express to the office staffs. Though I received my degree last June, most of my teaching experience came while I was still learning. In high school, I worked as a museum docent for after-school programs - at one point trying to convince 3rd graders that M.C. Escher's life and work were as exciting as the afternoon TV they were missing. While in college, I worked for Apple computer, teaching adults in one-on-one tutoring sessions in computer usage. My method of studying for my finals was to show up to study groups not to learn the answers, but to reinforce my own learning by explaining the relevant topics to my peers. After graduating, I worked for at Apple full time before moving to the Big Island and working various jobs, most recently for a tour company. As a team lead I have mentored and taught younger team members for over 10 years in computer programming, planning, statistical analysis, budgeting, and mathematical computations. I have also taught them how to debug problems, test solutions, and how to successfully complete their tasks. I have over 20 years experience in a variety of fields such as Defense Industry (Department of Navy), Space Systems (Atlas V lauch vehicle), and commercial (Lockheed-Martin). My teaching/mentoring/tutoring style is tailored to the student. I do not believe their is a generic teaching style that will help all students. Most people I have worked with have difficulty understanding a couple of key points and once that obstacle is overcome learning accelerates until the next obstacle is reached. I strongly believe the tutor needs to learn from the student as well to successfully teach.

I have been teaching and tutoring people in computer usage for over 20 years now. I also used to teach computer programming in the mid 80's. I have a good understanding of mathematics and physics. This is important stuff to learn, so I like to give an overview with specific examples on how this will apply in their everyday life. Then we go over the basics. My goal is to get the student to have a strong understanding of the material.

I have earned two bachelor degrees which has given me the chance to motivate other youths and kids to seek the world and don't let it end with High school. There is more to life. Granting that Education is the key to success and without education there will be no sense of direction. I love working with kids. I believe that the kids are our future and if we adults don't help them grow up to be leaders and make better choices in their lives we will not have any sense of direction.
